Savills Corby Town Centre Projects: Scope of Works​

Interkey Contracting partnered with leading property advisor Savills to deliver a series of high-impact redevelopment and enhancement works across Corby Town Centre. The programme formed part of a broader strategy to modernise the retail and public realm environment, improve accessibility, and enhance the aesthetic appeal of key town centre assets.

Working within a public-facing environment with live footfall, our works were carefully planned and phased to ensure maximum safety and minimum disruption for visitors, tenants, and surrounding businesses.

Key Project Aspects:

​

• Retail Shop Strip-Out: We undertook a full internal strip-out of a former high street retail unit to shell and core condition, preparing the unit for future fit-out. This included removal of M&E systems, shopfront signage, flooring, partitions, ceilings, and redundant services, with all waste managed in accordance with environmental disposal regulations.

• Installation of Safety Bollards: To improve site-wide pedestrian safety and protect building perimeters, Interkey Contracting installed a series of impact-tested stainless steel safety bollards across key access points. Positioned at pedestrian crossings, loading bays, and public entry zones, these bollards were set in reinforced concrete and aligned with town centre security strategies.

• Fabrication & Installation of Steel Staircases: We designed, fabricated, and installed multiple structural steel staircases to provide enhanced vertical circulation between different levels of the shopping centre. Each staircase was built to bespoke architectural specifications, including galvanised steel stringers, anti-slip treads, and powder-coated balustrades, ensuring long-term durability and visual consistency with surrounding materials.

• Fabrication & Installation of Gates, Railings & Fences: Interkey Contracting was responsible for the manufacture and installation of a series of custom metalworks, including access gates, perimeter railings, and public safety fencing. All components were hot-dip galvanised and finished with polyester powder coating, delivering both functional security and an aesthetic upgrade to previously tired boundary treatments.

• Glass-Walled Upper Floor Walkways: We installed structural glass walkways along upper-level retail areas, allowing improved natural light distribution while offering safe and stylish transitions between units. These walkways included frameless toughened glass balustrades, stainless steel handrails, and slip-resistant surface treatments — fully compliant with Building Regulations and DDA access requirements.

• Repointing and Repainting Concrete Stairs: To rejuvenate heavily trafficked areas, we carried out concrete stair repairs, including crack remediation, full repointing of joints, and application of a durable anti-slip external paint system. The result was a fresh, modern look with improved slip resistance and protection against environmental degradation.

• Fabrication and Installation of The Sundew Sculpture: As part of the town’s public art initiative, Interkey Contracting led the fabrication and installation of the landmark “Sundew” sculpture — a bespoke steel feature commemorating the town’s industrial heritage. Delivered in close collaboration with the local authority and artists, the sculpture required precision fabrication, structural anchoring, and safe hoisting within a live pedestrian plaza.

• Cladding Installation on Public Lifts: We completed the design, fabrication, and installation of architectural cladding systems to the town centre’s external public lift shafts. The cladding system was made from powder-coated aluminium panels, carefully detailed to conceal structural elements and deliver a clean, modern visual finish while providing resistance against vandalism, weather, and wear.
